Why We Created the 18-29 Pass at Bousquet Mountain

In the heart of the Berkshires, Bousquet Mountain has always been more than just a place to ski—it’s a community, a home, and a place to create lifelong memories. This year, we’re excited to introduce something new: the 18-29 Pass, starting at just $229. You may be wondering, why this pass? Why now? Here’s the story behind our decision:

Supporting Financial Independence for Young Adults

Turning 18 often comes with a wave of change. For many, it marks the beginning of financial independence. Whether you’re heading off to college, starting a new job, or figuring out your next steps, this transition can be financially challenging. Many in the 18-29 age range are covering expenses on their own for the first time, making cost a major factor in decisions about recreational activities.

In the ski industry, this age group historically sees the lowest participation rates in season pass purchases. Why? Because traditional passes can be expensive, and most ski areas offer discounted college passes that require a valid transcript. But not everyone chooses college—and that shouldn’t be a barrier to enjoying the slopes. We prefer an approach that is more inclusive, ensuring that all young adults, regardless of their path, can continue to access skiing and riding.

Additionally, our research has shown that this age group skis infrequently and does not typically participate in season-long programs such as racing or other snowsports school offerings. With this in mind, we’ve priced the pass accordingly, ensuring it remains accessible while reflecting the way this group engages with the sport.

Why This Age Range Matters

The 18-29 demographic is at a pivotal stage in life. It’s a time for self-discovery, building friendships, and finding hobbies that bring joy and balance. Skiing and snowboarding are not just sports; they’re social outlets and a mental health boost during the long winter months. Research by the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) highlights that this age group often struggles to stay engaged with skiing due to cost and time constraints.

We’ve also observed that many individuals in this demographic gravitate back to Bousquet later in life. Our hope is that by offering an affordable pass, we can keep this age group engaged with Bousquet Mountain, even if they ski less frequently. By staying connected, whether through the occasional ski day, après-ski gathering, or simply knowing they have a home mountain to return to, young adults can maintain a lasting bond with the sport and the community.

Addressing Industry Trends and Needs

According to the NSAA, Generation Z skiers (those within the younger segment of this pass’s target age range) are more likely to seek deals and value-driven offers. They’re cost-conscious and often looking for ways to make activities fit within tight budgets. The $229 starting price reflects our commitment to keeping skiing within reach for young adults while offering all the benefits of our larger pass products.

At the same time, we recognize that this age group has different financial and time commitments, making them less likely to purchase a full-priced pass. By pricing this pass based on infrequent usage, we hope to make it a viable option for those balancing work, school, and other responsibilities. We also hope this pass offers opportunities for young adults to stay connected to the area, to extended family, and to the community at large.

A Home Mountain for Friendships and Memories

We’ve seen firsthand how Bousquet Mountain can be a place where lifelong connections are made. For young adults who may be moving to a new town, starting a job, or feeling disconnected, having a home mountain provides an opportunity to meet people, make friends, and share in the thrill of the outdoors. Our 18-29 Pass is fully unlimited—no blackout dates—so you can ski after work, spend weekends carving through fresh powder, and enjoy all the events and après-ski vibes Bousquet has to offer.

What Makes the 18-29 Pass Unique

  • Affordability: Starting at just $229, this pass is priced to make it the most accessible option for those newly navigating financial independence.
  • No Restrictions: Enjoy unlimited access to the mountain with no blackout dates.
  • Social Vibes: Take advantage of Bousquet’s fun and lively atmosphere—whether it’s skiing after work, attending spring events, or joining us for après-ski parties.
  • Mental and Physical Health Benefits: Studies have shown that getting outside and staying active, especially during winter, can boost mental health. We want to make it easier for young adults to prioritize their well-being.
  • Inclusive for All Paths: Unlike college-specific passes that require proof of enrollment, our 18-29 Pass is open to all, whether you’re in school, working, or exploring new opportunities.

Final Thoughts: Building a Community of Lifelong Skiers and Riders

Our mission at Bousquet Mountain is to create opportunities for people of all ages to fall in love with skiing and riding. The 18-29 Pass is a step toward ensuring that financial independence doesn’t mean leaving the slopes behind. Whether you’re new to skiing or have grown up on the mountain, this pass is your chance to stay connected, build new experiences, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

We invite you to join us this winter and be a part of the vibrant, inclusive community at Bousquet Mountain. With our 18-29 Pass, you can ski more, spend less, and discover what makes this mountain so special.

Amanda started at Bousquet in September, 2022.

She was born and raised in the Berkshires and currently resides in Pittsfield. She loves to be outside in the summer months hiking the various trails we have to enjoy, biking on the Rail Trail or kayaking anywhere there is water. Although she enjoys the warm weather over the cold, she is excited to appreciate the winter beauty on a whole other level and brush up on her skiing skills!

When Amanda is not working, she thoroughly enjoys spending time with her family (mainly her 5 nephews and 1 sweet little niece 😊)
